"I just want to say Thank You Mom!!!"
And at eight and half months pregnant, Giulietta took her State Board Exams. “I felt like she was my lucky charm,” she explains. “I sailed through the exams knowing I had a bigger project. I got the letter that I passed shortly after my daughter, Hazel, was born. It's kind of like my professional life and my life as a mother, started at the same time.”
Now Hazel is fifteen, and everyday, Giulietta says, is a gift of getting to know another person.
Between school and work Giulietta and Hazel find time to cook dinner and garden together. They also enjoy the occasional hot tub in the back yard and talk about life.
"Hazel is a pretty dreamy, measured and thoughtful person. I tend to be fast, mercurial, impatient. She helps me slow down and chill out,” says Giulietta. “To me, being a parent is to be in a dynamic intimate conversation with another, together yet separate person. As she grows, I grow and strive to meet her where she is. It's sweet, imperfect and makes me feel vulnerable, but strong and alive. So glad I made the leap.”
“And she has always been my lucky charm.” ;)
