Meet Gabriella
In the third installment of our 'Meet the Artist' series, ten-year-old Gabriella tells us about her life as a daughter, a student, a cook, a skateboarder, and a music connoisseur.
How does it feel having the founder and designer of Mi Cocina as your dad? Have you learned anything from him?
I’ve learned what denim is and that there are different types of denim and different textures. I’ve also learned that you have to work really hard to get what you want.
What is one thing you can always beat your dad at?
I’d say probably video games and skateboarding.
Want me to tell you a funny story?
When I was in kindergarten my dad and I were skateboarding, I was on my bike and he was on his skateboard. He fell off his skateboard and he wasn’t wearing any pads, and I told him to wear pads, but he tripped on a pebble. Later, when he came back from the doctor he said he had cracked three ribs, so yeah, I’m better at skateboarding than him.
With one parent from New York and one from Maine, how do you deal with choosing your favorite sports team?
I’d say Boston is my favorite because my mom and cousins are from Maine, and the Boston Red Sox graphics on their hats are just cooler.
(By the way, Dad’s a Yankees fan)
What is your favorite meal you’ve ever cooked for someone you love?
I’d say it was when my mom had Covid. I made her really good chilaquiles, and café con leche to make her feel better.
If you could have a personal chef for a day, what three meals would you choose to be made specifically for you?
I’d probably say carbonara pizza for breakfast with a warm gooey egg on top, and then I would pick sushi for lunch. For dinner I would probably pick Maine lobster.
What is something you hated when you were younger but now love?
My dad’s chilaquiles.
What was your dad‘s worst cooking fail?
Really really really really really really really bland and undercooked oatmeal.
What is your favorite vacation you’ve ever been on and why?
I’d say it was when I went to Arizona because that was really nice and the hotel had a waterpark which was so much fun.
Which Mi Cocina product is your favorite and why?
The dog poop bags (Dog Bag Holder) because my dog BLUE and I came up with the idea.
What is your go-to movie when you need a mood boost?
Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Can you tell me one unique fact about yourself?
I like apples with ranch dressing.
What are you most proud of about yourself right now?
I have good grades.
What is something you want to learn how to do?
Play the violin properly.
